What are textured tiles?
Textured tiles are a type of tile with a rough surface texture as opposed to smooth, glazed flat tiles. They have become more popular in recent years, with a range of textures that has continued to evolve and expand year by year. Textured tiles have great aesthetic appeal, and can subtly enhance an interior with contrasting elements and decor. They are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, as well as outdoor spaces and pool walking areas.
Textured tiles can help make smaller spaces appear bigger, especially tiles with horizontally linear or wavy designs. Textured tiles of this type can catch your eye and draw you along the sides of a wall thus giving the illusion of depth and space. This makes them perfect for small bathrooms. Depending on the texture, textured tiles can catch ambient lighting in unique ways that can create mood and atmosphere.
Another great practical feature of textured tiles is that as a flooring option for wet areas, they are amongst the most highly rated for slip resistance. They are great to use in any wet area including bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.
Despite the aesthetic and practical advantages of textured tiles, there is at least one drawback – cleaning them. You may need a little more than a simple wipe to clean a textured tile. However, dirt and discolouration is less noticeable than a smooth tile if you aren’t up with your daily housework!
